The day before I turned 36, I went to the Bexar County Clerk’s Office downtown in San Antonio, to start my company. 210 Local Media, the record label, was something born out of my experiences and a conversation with the first band we will be signing, The Akuzma. This conversation happened between midnight and 3 a.m. one night/morning after a local show at Fitzgerald’s between myself and two members of The Akuzma, oddly enough, both named Jason. The next morning, I mentioned the possibility of the label to another local music friend and band manager. A few hours later, I mentioned it to another local band, who let me know that if it happened, they were down. This was it, kismet. I had already had so much in place with the podcast, 210 Local Media Podcast, and all of the connections I had made during the course of running the podcast. I already had access to musicians and bands that I was a huge fan of, and started the podcast out of frustration for the local bands that were amazing but hadn’t gone anywhere, so a label was the next best, and more powerful thing to do. As I’m typing this, I’m still locking down the first group of bands that I’d like to work with and yet I’ve preemptively started looking into how I can help them. Needless to say, I don’t stop working and I love what I do and who I do it for.
Just wanted to share my thoughts on this initial blog post.
